2007-03-23 The Freeport News-St. Pauls to host cultural festLocal food items will also be available at the event including conch salad and fritters, fried fish, benny cake, switcher in the tin can and more. Activities such as straw plaiting, dance, storytelling, poetry and skits, plaiting of the maypole and Junkanoo will take place on that day. Students will gain exposure from straw artists and will see the actual plaiting of straw and learn how it is done. The idea behind the festival was to encourage the students to find out about their ancestry and how things happened in The Bahamas before the present-day amenities of inside toilets, washers, dryers, electric irons and video games.
